Mary Todd Lincoln visits Boston spiritualists.

January 31, 1872

(Jan.) [1875] Mrs. Lincoln visits the spiritualist photographer William H. Mumler in his studio at 170 West Springfield Street. During the session, Mumler reputedly creates a photo of the widow with a shadowy figure resembling Abraham Lincoln standing behind her. During her time in Boston, Mrs. Lincoln also visits Margaret Fox in her séance studio on Washington Street and the J Ward & Son Photographers at 125 Washington Street.
